New Med Spa Trend Causes Cold Burns Among Other Ailments

Whole-body cryotherapy (WBC), the futuristic-sounding medical spa trend has been embraced by swanky and hipster areas across the country. However, the procedure isn’t approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), and a recent case report found that the technique can cause cold burns. Whole-body cryotherapy is a “super-cooling” process requiring the client to stand in a chamber where their legs and torso are exposed to exposed to temperatures as low as negative 200 or 300 degrees Fahrenheit.
